Vegetarians also have the lower risk of developing diabetes and cancer. According to National Academy of Sciences, high protein intake maybe associated with an increased risk of cancer in certain sites. There is greater chances of preventing reversing or curing these diseases as vegetarian diets have lower saturated fat content.
Furthermore, although there are many benefits of plant based diets, many people still believe that vegetarian diets lacks most of the vitamins, minerals and nutrients required by the body and hence are not the healthiest way of living life. Consumption of plant based foods containing plenty of carbohydrates, proteins, vitamins and minerals in the right proportion from each food group can meet the recommendation for all nutrients. This will help to avoid potential deficiency and thus achieve optimal health conditions.
Consequently, in addition health conditions, being a vegetarian also has numerous physical benefits. Plant based diets helps to lose extra weight more easily and faster. Vegetarians have better eating and sleeping habits as they tend to eat more fruits and vegetables than the meat eaters. This helps in living a long healthier life compared to meat consumers.
In a nut shell, proponents of vegetarian diets also emphasize on the fact that there is indeed health risk of eating meat and animal products, which are produced under extreme unsanitary condition. The worst part is that if undercooked animal products are consumed, various parasites and diseases can be contracted.
