Sonam Zam 12 commerce

                                                                 backstory

HighLife is a journey filled with twists and turns, highs and lows, challenges and triumphs. Embrace each step along the way, for it is in the journey that we discover who we truly are. Let your experiences shape you, your dreams inspire you, and your resilience guide you. Trust in the path you're on, for every moment is a part of your unique and beautiful life journey. My name is Sonam Zam and I was born to Passang Dorji and Sangay Wangmo on may 2nd 2005 at Thimphu hospital.I grew up in a village called Namselling which is located under Thimphu Dzongkhag. As a first born child I received lots of love and care.I have one brother and his name is Kinley Rabgyel he is born on 2008 june 25th and probably he is 16 right now. I was called by many different nicknames, my parent call me Thagom(skin of any animal) as I never used to gain weight and looked very skinny. They kept that name from the day when I was blown by a wind to a certain distance when they were working in a field, families call me chobjem because that time maybe I was stylish and they say like I was very talkative. Every morning I have to wake early . My mom would go to sell some hand made rice chips at the bazaar and to talk about my father, he is an alcoholic person so I never see him in the morning. I have to prepare breakfast and start with the cleaning. Playing mud with my friends and going with grandfather for the cowhiding is the activity I enjoy every evening. At night I have to keep the dinner prepared for mother. when  she returns she would rest a bit, take the dinner and start with her work again to make the chips(Meakhu) so, I would help her with that. I thank god for sending a wonderful person in my life, greatest teacher of compassion, love, and care. The person who is everything and the responsibilities she took it feels really lucky to have a mother like her.

About her

When it comes to interest, I like to dance and communicate with others. My favorite colors are black, white and green(as it is attractive to look at). When I am alone, books become my friend, so reading books is the interesting thing I usually do every now and then. At home I like to help my mother with her work, in school to help friends and younger ones. Being a vegetarian my favorite curry is emadatshi. I like to play volleyball and watch Chinese dramas. When it comes to studies my weakness is in math, and I am good in Dzongkha subject. I like to play volleyball among the other games. Mostly I would prefer staying home rather than traveling.

Primary School

I had to take a bath every once in a day as it takes around 1 hour and a few minutes for me to walk from home to school. I studied in Gelephu School till class PP-ll. Back then it was really fun making new friends and teasing each other. When it's class time I enjoy learning many things and during free hours I play many games with my friends, games like (ice and water, ring goal and etc...) I would wait for them every evening to walk home together. On the way we would collect mangos and enjoy having it.

Secondary School

Being a new student in class three at Khasadrapchu Middle Secondary School I had to introduce myself, enjoying the view, making some friends, and getting ready to learn new things from the new teachers. Madam Daza Wangmo was the class teacher who taught us English. I would always enjoy learning languages during her period. Learning the dzongkha subject is the toughest for me because when I was in Gelephu I mostly spoke nepali with my friends. During the dzongkha class I always be the first person to get the scolding from the lopen as I hardly understand that language. I would try learning new words every evening from my mother. Everything went well till class 3. When I was in class 4 I always saw my father coming home late at home getting drunk and beating my mother. Seeing her crying every night and working late night was the thing I have seen while pretending to sleep. Without knowing the reason they got divorce after a few months, I was taken by my mother. Without noticing it went so fast days into months and months into years I reached grade 6, without receiving fathers love and care. My life was blessed as It was filled with love and care given by my mother, she would work all day to support our family. Although I was given everything that I desire, the only thing that I was waiting for was to see him(father). I would hate him for he was an alcoholic person, but as a daughter I would miss him every now and then, I would always wish to see him. Whenever I see my friends with their father, spending time with each other I would start missing him. Seeing my mother working all by herself sacrificing her rest time was the only thing I had seen till class 7, so I decided to join a border school where I thought to give her pleasure time, to  let her spend time with her friends and let her do whatever she wanted.

I joined as a border student in grade 8 at Yangchen Gatshel Middle Secondary School which is located at Chamgang under Thimphu Dzongkhag. In the beginning I felt unhappy as for the first time I was getting apart from my mother, doing things all by myself , staying alone so I would cry every night missing my parents. During the class hours I would study thinking that my mother is suffering just to support the family and in the  free hours I would be alone reading books, so it was really hard for me to cooperate and communicate with others. My father passed away when I was in class 10. My dreams and hope to see him were all broken. Not knowing what to do, whom to tell how much I miss him was the situation that I had faced in my life for the very first time. There was no one to comfort me and the only thought that came in my mind was just to study hard. My journey to my primary school ended like that.

During vacation

During vacation I would help my mother with her work as she started a small shop. I would help my grandfather with his work in the village, preparing all the meals in a day and cleaning the house is the activity I always use to do all day. I  also did a small temporary job (pay zo ni) . I woke up early in the morning and went to work with my neighbor. We worked till 4 by taking our own lunch bags. I did that work till the vacation finished. It was very tiring for me but I was very happy as I was able to make money by myself. I bought one sweater for my mother  from my money and also I was able to buy all the things during the school shopping from my own money.

High School

It was in 2023 when I entered the gate of Wangbama School, seeing many differences in all things new teachers, friends, and new surroundings that was quite a wonderful place. From my previous school the facilities here in Wangbama were good, the food that was given was quite tasty. I took commerce when I was in grade 11, I got 4 group friends including one friend that came along with me from our previous school, her name is Tshering Selden and she is a science student and remaining all are commerce student. I found many differences in wangbama school from my  previous school. We used to have study timing such as morning, evening, and night study timing in our hostel and here it's done in the dining room. staying here for a year was quite happy for me, I like the teachings here, friends and facilities as well. 1 year ended without noticing and now I am in grade 12 and I am here again in the same surroundings feeling great and happy. It feels good that I am able to enjoy the learning and I can make many  new friends. I am creating a timetable for myself to mainly focus on studies to achieve my goals. My only goal this year is to study hard and make my mother proud.
